Match Report – Roselands 1 v Rusthall  Lions 2

Date: Saturday 11th November 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

We made a good start to the game with lots of good passing and movement off the ball, this created an opening for James Webzell to score a fine goal. Roselands pressed us hard, making Callum Ryan produce 2 outstanding saves, but we conceded a goal just before half time.

The second half again we took control with some good passing by Charlie MacDonald , Kieran Ryan  stretched Roselands down the right wing nearly scoring a goal by cutting in and beating their defender but their goalkeeper made a  good save. With this pressure James Webzell scored again, Roselands pressed hard for a goal narrowly missing from a free kick but we hung on for a win. Well done.

Match Report – Raw Skills 3 v Rusthall Lions 0

Date: Saturday 11th November 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

We knew this was going to be a tough match so the Lions had to be at their best, unfortunately this was not the case as we lost our shape and confidence early on, this was due to some good play by Raw Skills. We went one down from a corner through bad marking.

The second half was slightly better with us having one or two chances but we seemed second to the ball all the time and they scored a further two goals. The score would have been worse but for Callum Ryan making some good saves.

Match Report – Rawskills 1 v Rusthall Tigers 1

Date: Saturday 11 November 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

Both sides started slowly and seemed unable to take the initiative. Rawskills had a couple of chances early on, one following a goalmouth scramble which Ross gathered well, the other thwarted by a fine tackle by Jake. The Tigers gradually got into the game and after 5 minutes a great cross-field pass by Chloe found Jack in the inside left position. Jack out-sprinted the defence and drove a fantastic left footed shot into the bottom right hand corner for the Tigers to take the lead. They defended their lead well under pressure from Rawskills with both Harry and Jake putting in fine blocks and tackles. Rawskills almost equalised with a drive from well outside the area which drifted just over the bar. An interchange between Jake and Chloe almost led to a goal, the Rawskills goalie knocking the ball out for a corner. At the other end a brilliant save by Ross when one-on-one led to a break out of defence and an equally good save by the Rawskills goalie. The chances kept coming for the Tigers with Chloe shooting just wide and then floating another shot across the face of goal. Rawskills managed to hold on until the break largely due their excellent number 4 in the heart of their defence. Rawskills started the second half well resulting in some desperate defending by the Tigers and some great tackles, especially by Brandon. Eventually the inevitable equaliser came as a Rawskills midfielder ran through the Tigers defence, cut inside and shot into the top corner. As Rawskills pressed for another Tigers clung on, with Ollie tackling well in front of goal. At the other end Matty shot into the side netting after a pass from Chloe. Chloe then rode a number of tackles and had a shot cleared off the line by the Rawskills number 4. In the dying seconds Matty had another shot saved after a run down the wing by Jake. Overall a great contest between two evenly matched sides which Tigers could have won had they converted their numerous chances.

Match Report – Roselands 1 v Rusthall Tigers 6

Date: Saturday 11 November 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

Early pressure by Roselands seemed to indicate another close contest with the Tigers holding on. Then, against the run of play, following a Tigers corner which Roselands failed to clear, Matty’s cross was met instinctively on the volley by Chloe giving the Roselands goalie no chance. The goal seemed to give the Tigers a huge boost of confidence and they soon lay siege to the Roselands goal with some brilliant passing moves. The ball broke to Jack who ran into the area and shot across into the right hand corner of the goal to make it 2-0 to the Tigers. Within a minute it was 3-0; the ball broke to Chloe from a throw-in who shot into the roof of the net. Moments later a shot on the turn by Jake was fumbled by the Roselands goalie but gathered on the rebound. As Tigers pressed forward, a Roselands counter-attack was brilliantly stopped in its tracks by Ross in a one-on-one with their striker. At the other end Chloe’s shot was turned around the post for a corner. Again the Roselands defence failed to clear and Jake shot into the roof of the net. After the break the Tigers carried on where they had left off. Jake broke into the area; his first shot was saved well but his follow up was drilled into the left-hand corner. A shell-shocked Roseland managed a consolation goal to make it 5-1 but then Tigers struck again. Moments after Jake’s shot was tipped over the bar, Ross, playing outfield in the 2nd half, and Ollie combined really well. Ollie’s shot was half-blocked by the defender but Sean managed to latch onto the rebound and shot into the corner to make it 6-1 and complete a brilliant all-round performance by the Tigers, most noted for their accurate passing and tireless running off the ball.

Match Report – Rusthall  Lions 1 v  East Grinstead Wasps 1

Date: Saturday 28 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

We took our time getting into this match as East Grinstead controlled the first 10 minutes but our defence, Daniel Wild, Liam Pentecost and Liam Woodruff contained the opposition in our final third. Against the run of play, James Webzell scored after a direct attacking run and shot. This seemed to settle the Lions down and we started to play with more confident.

The second half was a tense affair, as we tried to hold onto our lead, East Grinstead pressed hard for an equaliser, Callum Ryan made two good saves to deny East Grinstead. Again we had good changes to extend our lead to ease the pressure but never managed it. East Grinstead score from a long shot which Callum Ryan dived for but it bounced over his body. On the whole a fair result .

Match Report – Rusthall Lions 2 v East Grinstead Hornets 0

Date: Saturday 28 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

We knew that our defence had to be good as the East Grinstead Hornets scored five past the Rusthall Tigers in their first match. Dylan Winter, Liam Pentecost and Liam Woodruff contained them with ease. We played some nice neat football with James Webzell scoring to put us one up.

The second half was pretty even but we needed a second goal to ease our performance. Their goal keeper took a goal kick which went straight to Paddy Sheehan who took the ball forward and shot from 15 yards out to beat the retreating goal keeper. East Grinstead pressed for a goal but they never threatened us as we closed shop and put our boys behind the ball.

The boys worked so hard for this result and to keep a clean sheet was testament to the hard work they are doing in our training sessions. Well played.

Match Report  - Rusthall Tigers 4 v East Grinstead Hornets 5

Date: Saturday 28 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

Rusthall kicked off and immediately earned a series of corners but were caught on the break and East Grinstead went into an early lead, and then scored again from the penalty spot.

After some good defending from Harry Stevenson, Matthew Yates got the ball, passed to Chloe Faulkner who scored for Rusthall, but then an unfortunate own goal put us two down again.

Then came the best move of the match as Chloe picked the ball up at the half way line beat four players and calmly slotted it past the keeper, this was closely followed by an equaliser when Matthew scored direct from the corner spot.

The second half starts with a period of sustained pressure from East Grinstead resulting in fine defending from Brandon Seale and Jack Hobbs and some good saves from Ross Brown, but eventually East Grinstead score twice re-establishing their two-goal lead.

Rustall did not give up and Chloe claimed her hat trick with the last kick of an exciting match.

Well done to Chloe for her fine performance in scoring a hat trick.

Match Report – Rusthall  Lions 0 v Hailsham Colts 2

Date: Saturday 14 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

Tough first match, the boys took into account what David Webzell ( coach ) had spoken about in our training session the week before. We passed the ball more accurately & kept possession of the ball for longer periods. Hailsham had the better of the first half, Callum Ryan making some outstanding saves and despite some fine defending by Daniel Wylde and Liam Pentecost but we conceded an easy goal.

As the saying goes, it’s a game of two halves and the second half was ours. James Webzell hit the post and the ball stopped on the line in the mud. Kieran Ryan made some fine runs down the right wing but we just couldn’t finish the moves off with a goal. Hailsham had a quick break and scored a second against the run of play. Our boys deserved a draw at least. Well played.

Match Report – Rusthall  Lions 0 v Hailsham United 1

Date: Saturday 14 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

This was our finest performance so far this season, we dominated the first half having 75% of possession, which was mainly due to a fine performance by Liam Woodroofe      (known as Woody)  who plays a holding position in the middle of the park, Woody broke up Hailshams play with some crunching tackles and then set up our next attacking move. James Webzell hit the post, shots from Kieran Ryan, Patrick Sheehan and Liam Pentecost made their goalkeeper work hard. Hailsham was awarded a corner from a rare incursion into our half, the corner was hit low and hard, Kieran went to clear the ball but inadvertently sliced the ball into his own net. At half time the boys were in our high spirits. The second half was very much like the first, we hit the post twice and crossbar but failed to find the net. Any attacks from Hailsham was stop by Dylan Winters and Liam Pentecost in our defence. The final score 0-1 did not reflect the game but if we play like this we will win more then we loose. A fantastic effort from the boys.

Match Report – Rusthall Tigers 2 v Hailsham United 2

Date: Saturday 14 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

The Tigers were subjected to pressure in their own half right from the kick-off. They seemed unable to clear the ball and inevitably Hailsham got the goal they deserved with their centre forward slotting the ball in to the corner after less than two minutes. Moments later the slick-passing Hailsham had doubled their lead and it looked like the Tigers were going to be on the receiving end of a big defeat. However, they began to get their defensive tackles in, with both Brandon and Jack keeping the visitors at bay. Oliver shot against the outside of the post after a fine pass by Jake. There were a couple more scares in the first half with Hailsham flashing shots across the face of the goal before Ross prevented a certain third goal with a fine save just before the break. The Tigers came out for the second half with Chloe up front. The change seemed to make a difference with Jake dinking a clever shot against the post and Jack driving a shot just wide. An overhead kick by Chloe was fumbled on the line by the Hailsham goalie who just managed to retrieve the ball before it went over the line. The Tigers’ pressure paid off a minute later as Chloe slid in at the far post after a great passing move. At the other end a goal-saving tackle from Brandon was followed by a Tigers’ break resulting in a corner. Jack took it short to Matt who crossed perfectly for Chloe to pounce for her second and the equaliser with two minutes to go. The home team continued to press but were unable to find the winner. A great comeback by Tigers who looked to be dead and buried after only three minutes of the first half – a classic “game of two halves”.

Match Report – Rusthall Tigers 0 v Hailsham Colts 2

Date: Saturday 14 October 2006

Weather: Dry and fair

The match against the Hailsham Colts started very scrappily with neither side able to control the ball. The Tigers defended well under pressure, with Harry in particular tackling well. Hailsham seemed to be camped in the Tigers’ half and the chances soon came. First a volley flew over the bar and then a fine left foot drive went into the side netting. A subsequent corner wasn’t cleared by the Tigers and after a goalmouth scramble the Hailsham striker poked the ball into the corner. The goal seemed to cause the home side to lose concentration and they almost conceded another before the break. The Tigers started the second half more brightly with Chloe sending a pass out wide to Jake whose cross/shot went into the side netting. Another move down the left hand side led to a cross by Jack which flew just pass the far post. The Tigers were lucky not to go two down when a run and shot by a Hailsham midfielder came back off the post before being gratefully gathered by Ross on the rebound. The pressure mounted and following a break down the left which caught the Tigers ball-watching a left foot shot crept through a crowd of players and into the net. The home side were unlucky not be awarded a penalty when Chloe was tackled unfairly in the box and nearly scored when Oliver passed neatly inside to Jake whose shot was blocked on the Hailsham goal line. Some smart passing by the visitors almost led to a third goal for them just before the final whistle. Overall the Tigers were unluckly not to have scored at least one goal but Hailsham took their chances well and were more committed in the tackle.

Match Report Tunbridge Wells Foresters V Rusthall U 10

Lions Matches – Game One

An excellent game of football played by both teams. After a good start James Webzell scored a fine goal. Foresters caught us off guard and scored just after the re-start. They put more pressure on our defence but despite a fine display from Callum Ryan, we conceded another goal. 2-1 at Half time. We played some fine one touch football in the second half and scored again via James from a free flowing move involving four players. Unfortunately Foresters scored three times in the last five minutes. Final Score 5 – 2.

Lions Matches – Game Two

Again a good game, we conceded a penalty early on which put us on the back foot and they went 2 –0 down against the run of play. Second half, Liam Pentecost scored from a corner taken by James Webzell. As we pressed for an equalizer they scored two more late goals. Final score 4-1.

Tigers Matches – Game One

Early chances at both ends but Foresters scored from a dubious corner. A fine display in defence by Harry Stevenson and a strong play by Jack Hobbs put Rusthall back into the match as Jack scored, making it 1-1 at half time. Foresters came out strong but our defence held their own. Our second goal come from a move started by Jake Woods passing to Mathew Yates who threaded a pass for Chloe Faulkner to score a fine goal. Unfortunately Foresters scored a fine goal, which Ross Brown could not get near. Final score 2-2.

Tigers Matches – Game Two

This was a great game to watch as both teams went hell to leather to win the match scoring 10 goals between both sides. We took an early lead after their goalkeeper made a fine save to stop Chloe from scoring only for Mathew Yates to score on the rebound. Foresters were awarded a penalty but Ross Brown made a fine save. Chloe scored a wonder goal by going past two defenders and scoring with a great strike.  Half time score 4-2. Second half Jack Hobbs gets us back into the match with a fine goal. But Foresters scored two more goals. We never gave up and after some excellent passing Jake Woods finished off a fine move by scoring a late goal. Final Score 6-4
