Rusthall Football Club

Rusthall Girls Under 12 End of Season Report 2007.

Rusthall Girls started this year (07) with a game that had been left over from last year against Crowborough Athletic and started the year with an excellent win before the season actually started. The season was an excellent season for Rusthall girls who eventually finished 5th in their league, a major achievement for a very young side.

The year saw some excellent wins along the way as the team grew in stature, strength and self belief and they very nearly made it to 2nd place as the season came to the end and stood a good chance of doing so if Heather Ebsworth (goalie) hadn’t broken her wrist in the warm-up to a vital clash.
Special thanks has to go Collette Robertson who very bravely put on the goalie gloves following Heather’s misfortune, which she wore with pride for the last few games of the season, doing an excellent job.
The structure of the team changed on more than one occasion throughout the season as the girls settled into their natural roles, Emily Woods and Shannon Allen became the strength at the back; Hannah Bunce, Rosie Ebsworth and Chloe Thompsett became the powerhouse of the midfield running through many teams; whilst Vicky Ryan, Paige Allan and Mia Pearce (a new signing for Rusthall) started to control the front.
All the girls did an absolutely fantastic job as they improved their own skills which help them to win their final two games of the season 3-0 and 3-2. Both games were hard fought and deservedly won and helped with preparing the girls for next season when they step up to playing 11 aside football giving them further belief in their capabilities.
Special thanks has to go to Nicole Woodhams who has turned up week in week out to training even though we haven’t had a team for her to play in! Next year a new under 11s girl team will be entered and we hope our success in girls football continues to attract female football to the club, please let us know if you know of anyone who is interested.
All the best for next season girls and thank you all for your support.

Rusthall 0 v Crowborough A 2
Saturday 10th March
The game between Rusthall and Crowborough A was a closely fought contest. Rusthall gave away an early goal which dampened the spirits a little but there was little between the two sides. Rusthall didn’t play there best in the first half but didn’t concede any further goals either. Rusthall really took the game to Crowborough in the 2nd half having a number of chances to equalise. Due to the sticky ground the ball bounced in front of the Rusthall goal and stopped allowing Crowborough to steal the winner but Rusthall should be really pleased with there dedication and effort. It was a great game but both teams.
Rusthall 1 v Spartan Reds 10
Saturday 3rd March
Rusthall hosted top of the table Spartan Reds on 3rd March. The game got off to a very quick start and Spartan open the scoring very early on. The first half was dominated by Spartan Reds with them scoring 8 goals during the half. Rusthall dug in well and managed to pull one back before the end of the half.
The second half saw a different Rusthall as they tried to take the game to Spartan Reds, and although Rusthall were unable to get any further goals they contained Spartan well. Spartan Reds did score two more goals and the game ended 10 – 1.
Rusthall Girls 1 v Hailsham 4
Saturday 17th
February 2007
After a couple of weeks of bad weather this game finally got underway at Rusthall instead of Hailsham. Both teams were eager to the get the game underway, Hailsham won the toss and elected to change ends giving Rusthall the kick off.
The first half was a fiercely competitive event with end to end action. Both sides dug in to provide a very even match. Just before half time, Hailsham broke free in the middle of the Rusthall half and calmly slotted an excellent shot past the Rushall keeper to finish the half 1-0 up.
Rusthall started the second half determined to make amends, however Hailsham soon doubled their lead with another excellent goal to make it 2-0. Rusthall continued to pressure and pushed closer and closer to the Hailsham goal, and whilst under pressure from a Rusthall attach Hailsham scored a home goal to make it 2-1.
As Rusthall tired from chasing the game, Hailsham were able to get a 3rd, resulting in the Rusthall heads dropping slightly. Hailsham scored again just before the end of the game making the result Rusthall 1, Hailsham 4.
Rusthall 1 Spartan Blues 0
Saturday 13th
January 2007.
Saturday 13th January saw the first league game of the 2007 season against Spartan Blues.
Rusthall won the toss and elected to take the tick off kicking uphill to start with. The first half was mainly controlled by Rusthall with Rosie and Chloe taking up midfield positions. Through their strength they pushed the game forward to Spartan Blues and after a couple near misses, Chloe stretch the Spartan Blues defence once more to take on the goalie in a 1on 1 situation, where she shot the ball home for the only goal of the match.
Rusthall’s defence held strong, and the new pairing of Emily and Collette as the back two, with Rusty keeping her position in goal made for a very formidable defence. Hannah back from illness paired up with Shannon up front and both gave Spartan Blues something to think about.
The second half saw a much more determined Spartan Blues, and the controlled the game for most of the half, having a number of near successful strikes. The Rusthall defence held strong and eventually the game moved out of the Rusthall half and back up the pitch. Rosie shot just over the bar with her left foot near just before the final whistle.
Dani and Paige, Rusthall subs, both came on during the second half and helped Rusthall maintain their lead.
This is Rusthalls second win in a row, and just goes to show the importance of training and regular games, therefore a big thanks to those that are turning up week in week out.
Rusthall 4 v Crowborough Athletic 0
Saturday 6th January 2006.
The first game of 2007 was the long awaiting match that had been postponed due to bad weather conditions later in 2006 between Rusthall and Crowborough. Rusthall had been the recipients of some recent defeats but this hadn’t dampened their enthusiasm and they were keen for a win.
The game kicked off at 10:00 and both sides showed excellent form. Some excellent defending by both sides made for an exciting game. Rusthall’s Chloe broke the deadlock midway through the first half to give Rusthall a well deserved lead. Crowborough dug in and nearly scored one back, but Rusty in Rusthall’s goal made some excellent saves.
Emily and Collette made a formidable defence making it difficult for Crowborough to break through, and just before half time Rusthall broke again down the right as Chloe ran forward, passing to Rosie who scored an excellent goal to make it 2-0.
The second half started as quickly as the first as both teams dug in. Crowborough had the better of the beginning of the 2nd half and only through some excellent saves by the superb Rusty and further gritty and excellent defending ensured Rusthall maintained their advantage.
As the half continued Rusthall’s play improved and it wasn’t long before Chloe scored her second to make it 3-0. To add to Crowborough’s troubles, during another Rusthall attack, a strongly struck clearance by a Crowborough defender rebounded off another Crowborough player to go into the net to give Rusthall their 4th.
Rusthall v Hailsham
Saturday
16th September 2006.
The opening game of the season demonstrated how well the Rusthall Girls team is growing and developing. The game was a closely contested event, however the score line did not support just how well Rusthall played. Loosing 6-1 the girls came away knowing they can improve on their game, but equally knowing they can give good sides a run for their money. It was Shannon Allens first full game in goal and the goals Hailsham scored were all fair goals. Shannon is committed in goal and will get a lot better as the season moves on.
Hailsham played the slightly better football and had a couple of stars that really made the difference, one in defence and one as striker.
The Rusthall goal came from a penalty which Rosie Ebsworth slotted away from the spot with precision. Rusthall’s first goal of the season with hopefully many more to follow.
Hastings Utd v Rusthall
It was a real shame that the game had to be abandoned due to Hasting not being able to field a team. 3 points awarded to Rusthall.
Rusthall 5 v Broad Oak & Horam 3
Saturday 14th
October 2006.
The Rusthall Girls team recently increased in size with two new joiners, Chloe and Collette, who both were available for the match and warmly welcomed by the rest of the team. This makes the Girls team now consist of 10 players moving us closer to our aim of an 11-aside team for next season.
When the game started the girls showed eager enthusiasm and were very quickly 1-0 up through a superb strike from Vicky Ryan. Soon after, excellent running from Paige helped to push us forward and we were unlucky not to score again.
The game was a closely contested end to end event with both sides having numerous chances. Chloe had a very strong first game and made some excellent challenges and ran with the ball well. Dani ran herself ragged in the first half providing excellent support for the team and made way for Collette at half time to make her first appearance where she also contributed well with strong tackles in midfield.
Broad Oak scored 2 goals to lead 2-1 before ‘Rusty’ scored Rusthall’s 2nd to make the match all square at half time. The 2nd half started as closely contested as the 1st. The Broad Oak goalkeeper had her work cut out and made some excellent saves in difficult circumstances. With the introduction of Emily into defence for Rusthall, Shannon, the Rusthall Goalie had less to do but still made some good saves.
Further goals from Vicky and Rusty took Rusthall to a 4-2 lead before Broad Oak pulled 1 back to make it 4-3 and to increase the tension for the last ¼ of the match. Rusty scored her 1st hat-trick to make the match secure ending the game with Rusthall the 5-3 winners.
Overall it was a fantastic match with both sets of supporters cheering loudly and both sides coming away feeling they’d achieved a step forward. Special thanks also go to all the Rusthall supporters who turn up week in week out.
Like Rusthall Broad Oak are a fairly young girl’s team and turned up with only 7 players and no sub. Special thanks go to Hannah (a Rusthall sub for today), who very sportingly helped Broad Oak out after half time and came on for them as a sub.
Mick and Liza would like to thank all the girls for their continued support, its imperative that we continue to grow our skills and the Thursday evening extra training sessions are definitely helping, therefore its imperative you all attend as often as possible.
Squad: Shannon, Rosie, Emily, Michelle, Paige, Vicky, Collette, Dani, Hannah and Chloe.
